William Charles McMullan
December 16, 1950 - January 6, 2024
William Charles “Charlie” or “Bo” McMullan passed away on January 6, 2024, in Jackson, Mississippi.
He was an avid outdoorsman, and his love of deer hunting was not surpassed. He spent 50 years as a member of the same hunting camp he started with family and friends in 1973 in Jasper County. Members of the club called him Bojangles or Bo and this caused great confusion to his young daughters when members called and asked for Bo or Bojangles. Shannon and Kellie routinely hung up the phone after saying no one by that name lives here. The last decade he spent more time behind a camera lens than a rifle scope communing with nature and the woods. He and his daughter Kellie spent many hunts together and this time will be greatly missed.
Charlie was born in Laurel, Mississippi, on December 16, 1950, to William A. McMullan and Lila V. (Manning) McMullan, as the oldest of two sons. He grew up in Heidelberg, Mississippi and graduated from Heidelberg High School in 1968.
He married Beverly Gail Pugh of Louin, Mississippi in December of 1972.
Charlie served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1970 until 1980 as a member of Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadrons 130, 133, and 135. He also served on board the U.S.S. Hancock (CVA 19). During his time as a sailor, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and a Navy Unit Commendation. Upon completion of his service in the Navy, he worked as a service engineer for Phillips Medical until his retirement in 2016.
Charlie was preceded in death by his mother Lila V. (Manning) McMullan, father William A. McMullan, brother Earnest McMullan, mother-in-law Helen Marie Myrick Pugh, father-in-law Oliver Travis Pugh, sisters-in-law Susan Pugh and Deneice Jenkins, and nephew Timothy Allen
He is survived by his wife of 51 years Gail, daughters Shannon McMullan, Kellie Mullins, son-in-law Casey Mullins and grandsons Houston, Wyatt, and Silas; brother-in-law Mark Pugh, nephew Chris Allen (Wendy), nieces Stacie Sharff (Rodney), Meagan Robertson (Daniel), Ashley Williams (Jeff), Heather Jenkins (Dan), Jessica Kovalski (Tom) and numerous grand nieces and nephews.
Charlie’s life will be celebrated at a family memorial service.
