Janet Elizabeth Laughmiller Quayle, 76, went home to Jesus on December 30, 2023, after battling pancreatic cancer for several months. The memorial service is Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison, Mississippi, with visitation starting at 9 a.m. Burial will follow at Natchez Trace Cemetery. A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Janet was the only child of N.B. and Grace Laughmiller. She was a 1965 graduate of Shades Valley High School and a 1969 graduate of Auburn University. Upon her marriage to Michael J. Quayle on June 15, 1969, the couple moved to Soso, Mississippi, where she began a career in teaching in the Jones County School District. In 1972, they moved to the Jackson, Mississippi, area, where Janet taught at Florence Preschool and Christ United Methodist Preschool. For 25 years, she was on staff at First Presbyterian Church Jackson, Mississippi, and after retirement, she began teaching again at Christ United Methodist Preschool. Most recently, she was a substitute teacher at Jackson Academy and Madison County Schools. Janet was a member of First Presbyterian Church Jackson. She enjoyed sewing, scrapbooking and serving as a member of the Rebecca Cravat Daughters of the American Revolution. But her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Michael; daughter, Kerri Hawkins (Rusty); four grandchildren, Austin Quayle (Olivia), Raleigh Quayle, Russell Hawkins and Eliza Hawkins; one great-granddaughter, Sadie Quayle; and her daughter-in-law, Brandee Quayle. She was preceded in death by her parents, N.B. and Grace Laughmiller, and her son, Brian Quayle. Memorials may be made to French Camp Academy or First Presbyterian Church Jackson, Mississippi.
