I'm sorry to hear of Nita's passing She was a classmate until 3rd grade and then I only saw her in passing later. I remember her as being a tomboy and she liked to show off in the school lunchroom how black pepper would make her sneeze.
I'm sure her fire and energy continued on through her life. I hope she has found peace and rest. I wish you the best as you cherish your own family's memories.

It was 1981 I believe when I first met Nita. She was easily the best housing staff member in a time of difficult staffing transition. She was a member of Ruth Garvey’s staff, and she was instantly known as the type of staff member everyone wanted. She was admired and respected by all, and her personality could enthuse or deflate, as needed, any situation. It is no surprise that her family years were marked by similar reflections. I am a better person for having known her, as was anyone who came to know her. Family members I ache for you because it is not fair for her to be gone. But as we remember her, she lives. Thank you for sharing her with us. May the Peace of the Lord be with you.

Ricky,
We are so sorry to learn of Nita’s passing. After many years ago meeting the two of you in the men’s softball world, who would ever know she would end up being one of my daugther Blake’s favorite teachers at Madison Middle School. Blake’s now a senior. She loved her and just cried when she heard. Nita made such an impact on everybody, not just her students. The obituary represented exactly every memory I have of her. Her voice alone was an identity that carried such passion in ever word she spoke and always recognizable even when she was out of view! What a Godly legacy she left. And that’s all God desires from the life He gives us. She spent her time very well!
Many prayers for you, your children and her entire family. I know you will all miss her greatly, yet given your faith in our heavenly Father, with the great anticipation of not only seeing her once again but the comfort knowing youll then spend an eternity together!
Sincerely
Melissa Butler and daugther Blake

Knew Nita Langston in the 1970s and continuing as Nita McKissack to the present. Yes, she was the same throughout her life, energetic, passionate, loving and caring. I also love the McKissacks and am familiar with Ricky’s loving family. May God give all the family and loved ones a peace that passes understanding during this time and the years to come as they cherish their memories of this sweet woman of God. May they be surrounded with love from their community at this time.

I am so very sorry that the kids and I and Josh and his boys are unable to make the trip to Madison for the services for Nita. She was truly one of a kind and loved by any and everyone who ever got the pleasure of meeting her. I will miss her spunk and personality, especially that contagious smile and laugh. She just lit up the room.... I know that above all else she loved with a fierceness and she loved completely. I will continue to pray for the entire family through this time, I know how hard it is and my heart is broken for you all. I love you all and you will be in my thoughts and prayers daily. Take care and know that you are being watched over with a greater love than you’ll ever know.

This makes me so very sad. I met Nita when she was our soccer mom for the MC soccer team. My daughter Peyton was on the team with Nicole and Michelle. If it were not for Michelle, Peyton may have quit! If it weren't for Nita, I would not have been in the loop. What a wonderful support team they were during those times. Most recently, I have been working with Louanne at Hinds CC. I am keeping the whole family in my prayers. I am praying for comfort and peace during this trying and sad time.

My sincere condolences for Nita McKissack and family. She will be truly missed.
I had Mrs. McKissack for my 8th grade Algebra I math class a few years ago; I now attend the University of Alabama.
I can vividly remember having my father drive me up to the middle school on Sunday nights for tutoring sessions with this sweet lady, just so I could get an A in her class.
Nita McKissack always wanted her students to exceed, even if that meant learning algebraic functions on a Sunday evening :)
She never failed to put a smile on my face.

To say Nita will be missed is truly an understatement. Her jest for life was contagious and always a ray of sunshine to witness. She was a fighter against this disease we call cancer until she could fight no more. God definitely received a special angel at the Gates of Heaven. I am convinced her presence will continue to be felt even now from above. To know Nita was to know love and loyalty. I’m thankful to say I’m one of the many lives she touched. My deepest sympathy to this family I love a lot. Prayers you’ll celebrate her moving on into a world without pain and suffering. She’s our Angel watching over us now and that brings a huge comfort to me.
Prayers
