Obituary of Joyce Marie Shinn
Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joyce Marie Shinn peacefully passed away in her home on July 7, 2023. She was surrounded by her beloved husband and children.
Joyce was born on November 7, 1957 in Cincinnati, Ohio. At a young age, her family relocated to Greenwood, MS. She married her high school sweetheart, Billy, on June 14, 1975. Joyce and Billy made a home and raised their family in Vicksburg, MS. They retired in Madison, MS.
While her children were young, Joyce focused on raising her family with a gentle spirit of love, kindness, support, and care. As her children grew, she transitioned to being a bookkeeper for a local accounting service. In 1997, Billy purchased an ATV, farm, and lawn equipment business. Joyce became his steadfast partner in the business for over 20 years. Upon retirement, they chose to make their home in Madison, MS.
Joyce, along with her husband, were committed members of Highland Baptist Church in Vicksburg, MS for over 3 decades. Joyce was a quiet volunteer in many areas of the church. She served for many years as the leader of Girls in Action. She led preschoolers in Mission Friends, choir, and Sunday preschool activities. Joyce was also dedicated to the Women’s Ministry. An advocate for pro-life ministry, she supported and participated in many events hosted by the Center for Pregnancy Choices in Vicksburg.
Joyce was a true and kind matriarch of her family. She was devoted to her loving and caring husband of 48 years. She fiercely loved her 3 children and was their constant supporter. Perhaps her most favorite title was Nana, as she was blessed with 4 grandchildren whom she adored and spoiled with a love like no other.
Joyce accepted Jesus Christ as Savior of her life and spread His message of love, hope, and salvation whenever she had the opportunity.
Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Morrell, and her mother, Jessie Perin Morrell.
She is survived by her faithful husband, Billy, daughters Tina Vining (Cory), Mindy Miller (Steve), son Michael (Mallory), brother Bob Morrell, sister Jo Ann Morrell, nephew Joey Mitchell (Carol), and her mother-in-law Betty. Her grandchildren are Rebecca Vining, Jase McBride, Landon Shinn, and Jordan Shinn.
Joyce’s service will be held on Monday, July 10, 2023, at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison, MS. Visitation begins at 10:00 am with the service following at 11:00 am. A private burial with family will be held at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to her home church, Highland Baptist Church in Vicksburg, MS.
