Walter Jasper McKay, Sr. Gluckstadt, MS Walter Jasper McKay, Sr., 82, passed away on June 20, 2023, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on August 4, 1940, to Walter Dennis McKay and Martha Herring McKay in Hattiesburg, MS. Walter was a devout Christian man who loved his wife, Glenda, with all of his heart and soul. Pappy, as he was known to his family, loved them all unconditionally and took great pride in each of their many achievements. He was always willing to lend a hand with various projects that his children or grandchildren needed. He enjoyed staying busy whether it was mowing grass, tending to his bees, or tinkering in his barn. He was loyal friend and would do anything in his power to help anyone in need. His knowledge on various subjects was vast, and he was willing to share with anyone who needed his assistance. Walter graduated from Provine High School and went on to Mississippi State University where he graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering. He started his engineering career with Ware-Lind Architects. With various engineering stops throughout his career, he retired in July 2000, after more than 16 years, from Saudi Aramco as a Lead Design Engineer. He was an avid beekeeper which spanned from his home base in Jackson, MS, to re-introducing beekeeping to the Arabian Peninsula prior to his retirement. He was well known throughout the Abqaiq community as "the beekeeper." Over the years, he has mentored several others in the art of beekeeping and has won numerous awards for his honey. He was active in his community of Gluckstadt, MS, and was instrumental in helping to get the community incorporated in 2021. He was also a member of the Madison County Planning and Zoning Board until his passing, serving at one point as the President of the Planning and Zoning Board. Walter was also an active member of First Baptist Church in Madison. Walter is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Glenda Gunter McKay, as well as his children Judy (Tim) Seal of Gluckstadt, MS, and Jay (Cindy) McKay of Gluckstadt, MS. He loved his grandchildren Matthew (Brittany) Seal of Gluckstadt, MS, Paige (Gafford) White of Gluckstadt, MS, Carleigh Seal of Kosciusko, MS, Connor McKay (Mikah Sheldon) of Gluckstadt, MS, and his great-grandson Ross White of Gluckstadt, MS. His siblings are Peggy (Neal) of Cairns, Australia and Martin (Glenda) McKay of Gulfport, MS. He is preceded in passing by his parents Walter Dennis McKay and Martha Herring McKay. Visitation will be at Natchez Trace Funeral Home from 1:00-2:00 pm on June 25, 2023. A funeral service celebrating his life will begin at 2:00 pm. In Lieu of Flowers, memorial gifts and donations may be made to the Central Mississippi Beekeepers Association or to a charity of your choosing in his name.
