Obituary of Michael Kevin Stanton

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Born the second child to Veterinarian Earl William (Bill) Stanton and Jane Cabelus Stanton on the second day of November 1958, Michael Kevin Stanton died unexpectedly on June 2,2023. Kevin was an excellent athlete, setting records in swimming and track. He held the love of water just as he witnessed in his mother. Kevin successfully coached the swim team at Briarwood Swim Club for many years where the kids adored him. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi and was an assistant Coach of the swimming team while there. Kevin was a professional swimming coach, eventually settling in Gulfport, running the swimming pool and coaching their swimming team until Hurricane Katrina destroyed the pool and his apartment. He returned to Jackson, where he worked part-time coaching the St. Joseph swimming team for several years and looked after his aging parents until their deaths. Kevin loved children but had no children of his own. Because of his work and love for the kids, he was selected to carry the Olympic torch. He was dedicated to the Special Olympics and their competitors. He was a loving brother who enjoyed people and entertaining. He was pre-deceased by his grandparents and parents. He is survived by his older brother, Dr. W. Mark Stanton, and by his younger sisters, Malinda Stanton Williams and Erin Stanton.
