Obituary of James Fougerousse

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James “Jim” Joseph Fougerousse June 29, 1948 – May 18, 2023 Jim Fougerousse was easygoing and charming and had a positive attitude, unflinching character and an unparalleled work ethic. Family and friends were most important to Jim, and he rarely had a conversation that didn’t finish with his unmistakable laugh. He enjoyed playing guitar, caring for many pets over the years, visiting Inlet Beach, FL, aviation and working on projects around his house. He was also a passionate Cleveland Browns football fan who never lost faith. Jim passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2023, from complications related to heart failure. James Joseph – Jim, Sugar, Gaga, Ace – was born in Cleveland, OH on June 29, 1948. His parents, Joseph John and Colette Carroll Fougerousse, then moved the family to Chester, SC when Jim was in high school. Jim graduated from Chester Senior High School in 1967. He attended Spartanburg Junior College before graduating from the University of South Carolina in 1971. At USC, Jim began dating, and then married in 1971, the love of his life, Deborah “Debbie” Patricia Collins. Jim and Debbie later moved to Jackson. Jim attended the Jackson School of Law at Mississippi College at night while working other jobs, earning a J.D. in 1977. He practiced law both in law firms and as a solo practitioner for 15 years. Thereafter, he worked at Jitney Jungle, North Jackson Office Supply, Ridgeland Pointe, Carquest and Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts. Jim loved and was extremely proud of his three children whom he and Debbie raised primarily in South Jackson before relocating to Ridgeland. Jim and Debbie were active at St. Therese Catholic Church and were devoted supporters of their children’s academic, athletic and extracurricular pursuits at St. Andrew’s and beyond. Sadly, Debbie predeceased Jim in 2011, and he felt her loss deeply. Jim is survived by his children, Jamie of Fort Worth, TX; John Paul “JP” (Heyward) of Atlanta, GA; and Elena Fougerousse Snyder (Matt Snyder) of Fort Worth, TX. Jim adored his grandchildren, Em and Page Fougerousse; and Zelda Snyder. Jim is also survived by his brother Dave (Jan) of Chester, SC and several nieces and nephews, but was predeceased by his other three brothers – Ray (Carol Ann) of Charleston, SC; Joe (Sheila) of Portsmouth, VA; and his fraternal twin, Tom (Debbie) of Chester, SC. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 25, 2023, from 1-2 pm, followed by a funeral service and burial at 2 pm, all at Natchez Trace Funeral Home and Memorial Park Cemetery, Madison, MS. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Community Animal Rescue & Adoption (carams.org).
