Obituary of Geraldine Mozley

Please share a memory of Geraldine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Geraldine Mozley, of Madison, Mississippi, passed away on March 8, 2023, just 15 days short of her 100th birthday. She always attributed her longevity to her many years of square dancing with her husband, Norm, and friends. Geraldine was born on March 23, 1923, in Eastland, TX to parents Lula and Caleb Jackson. After graduating high school in Wewoka, OK, she worked briefly in Oklahoma City, where she met and married her husband of 57 years, Norman Mozley in 1944 while he was stationed in Oklahoma. After he left the service, they moved to Indiana where he completed his degree at Purdue in Electrical Engineering while she continued to work office jobs. Upon his graduation, he was hired by Shell Oil Company and they moved to Roxana, IL where they began their family. Once their first child was born, Geraldine became a full time mother and housewife. Their children and grandchildren include sons Norman Jackson (Jack) Mozley and Mark Ladd Mozley, daughter Vicky Lee (Mozley) Edwards, grandchildren John Edwards, Jessica Mozley, Katie Jo Mozley, Kara Mozley, Tyler Malan, James Edwards, Daniel L. Edwards, Jr. (Chip), Marcelle Edwards, Jarrah Horne and Emily Wynn, followed by 11 great grand children and one great-great grandchild. Everyone who met her said that she was the kindest person they had met. Her love of Jesus shown through her, and she often said she had held every position available at her former church, Wood River Presbyterian Church. As it merged and became LoveJoy Presbyterian in Wood River, she continued her active participation until her move to Mississippi in 2004. When she made the move to be closer to her daughter, she joined St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church where she remained active until her death. Also, everyone who knew Geraldine knew that she was a multi-talented artist. Her interests included oil painting, pastels, stained glass, sculpture, and scratchboard, to name a few. Her most recent creative outlet became her beloved hand-crafted cards. Many of her friends and family treasure her outpouring of her love via these beautiful creations. Other passions that need to be mentioned are her love of square dancing and her dedication to her P.E.O. sisters in her beloved P.E.O. She and her husband loved to square dance, often dancing 3 or 4 nights every week if they could, and she remained a devout P.E.O. member up to her death. Geraldine was predeceased by her husband, Norman Grant Mozley, her brother C.J. Jackson, and her sister Kathleen Dennis. One of her parting wishes stated that she requested no flowers except for a single daisy. Here is what she wrote: "Just a single daisy. You can stand in awe when looking at a field of flowers, but you must pick only one to see how really beautifully made it is." In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rise Against Hunger fund or the Capital Campaign fund at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church.
