Please share a memory of Frederick to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Canton, MS—Frederick W. Perian, age 90, passed away peacefully at home on December 14, 2022, after battling pancreatic cancer. Fred, the son of Frank and Elsie (Kuschel) Perian, was born at his home on the kitchen table in Detroit, Michigan. He is survived by his only brother, Ronald C. Perian and wife, Joette. Fred enjoyed baseball, football and hockey during his school years. His best friend introduced him to snow skiing and it quickly became his favorite sport. Over the years he traveled the world in search of the best ski runs. His favorite place was Snowbird, Utah as it had the “best” early snow. He enjoyed skiing free once he turned 80 and his last ski run in Utah was with his children and grandchildren at 87 years old. He met Eve (Battane) while vacationing in Caseville, MI and they married in 1957 at St. Raymond’s Catholic Church in Detroit, MI. He enjoyed sharing life with her for over 65 years. Fred is survived by Eve, and their three children-Ken Perian of Columbus, MI, Cathy and husband, Guy McMillan of Canton, MS, and Vicky Bratton of Madison, MS. His greatest joy included time spent with his grandchildren-Frank Perian and Luke Perian of Columbus, MI; Libby (Perian) and husband, Max Lapekas of Page, AZ; Alex and wife, Catelyn McMillan of Canton, MS; Catherine Bratton and Connor Bratton of Madison MS. Fred enjoyed boating, water skiing, and fishing in Caseville over several decades. He also enjoyed the card game Euchre and played many games with family, friends and on boat trips with special friends. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles where his father-in-law was a charter member and past President. Fred loved to golf with friends and his homeowner buddies. He received many lessons from Eve, but only managed to beat her score a few times. He was a member of Deerfield Golf Club, Colonial Country Club, the USGA, and forged many special friendships through the game. He played in the Norman Bryant Invitational for many years. One of Fred’s proudest moments was becoming a Certified Professional Engineer in the states of MI and MS. He attended Michigan College of Mining and Technology and received his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University. Fred enlisted in the US Army and served during the Korean War. His training as an engineering equipment repairman in combat engineering helped guide him to his major at Michigan State. He proudly and humbly served his country. Fred began his professional career with Sperry-Vickers in Troy, Michigan. He moved his family in 1977 to Jackson, MS and worked at for Vickers which is now Eaton in mechanical engineering. Some of Fred’s professional accomplishments include being promoted to Chief Engineer, Research and Development and being selected as the Director of Quality and the Quality Improvement Process. Fred and Eve attended many Society of Aerospace Engineers (SAE) conferences and ski trips throughout his engineering career and met many lifelong friends. Fred retired from Eaton in 1993 after 35 years of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Madison County Mississippi Sheriff’s Department Benefit Association “A Home for Brad” Sullivan, who was injured in the line of duty in 2019. The Home Builders Association of Jackson members work to build and maintain an accessible home for the deputy that helps with his physical limitations. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gluckstadt where he was a member for over 37 years. Fred was involved with the annual GermanFest, canned sauerkraut, worked on the church grounds and made many special friends. Memorials can also be made to Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland MS who took special care of Fred during his cancer battle. Visitation will be on December 20, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 10:00am until 11:00am with the Funeral Mass at 11:00am. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors.
