Bobbie Jean Lawley Welch
Brandon, Mississippi
Bobbie Welch, 90 years old… (23 days shy of her 91st birthday), passed away on Saturday, June 25th, 2022. She was born on July 18, 1931, to Austin Lawley and Margie Hollis Lawley, in Pell City, Alabama.
Mawmaw (as she was known to all her family) spent her childhood in Hueytown, AL. She immediately joined the Army after graduating from high school. She was one of the first females to join the Army, after the stipulation was eliminated, that you could only join if you were a nurse. She was in the Army for a short time, before she was swept up by Bondy Allen Welch… Bondy and Bobbie were married for 42 years. Over 20 of those years, Mawmaw was a military wife. They had four sons, and lived in Japan and all over the United States, before settling in Mississippi. As their boys got older, Mawmaw went back to school while working, and got her Bachelor and Masters Degree In Secretarial Science. She then taught school at Hinds Community College for over 25 years, before retiring.
Mawmaw loved all her family with a passion… She loved bowling for many years, and she loved and frequented the YMCA in Clinton, where she was very active, even into her 80’s. She especially loved to read and walk… she has been known to walk holes in many pairs of shoes!!
Mawmaw has spent the last 8 years in Castlewoods Assisted Living, where she felt loved and cared for, and always referred to it as her home.
Bobbie Welch is survived by her three sons, Dale Welch, Larry Welch (Laurie) and Scott Welch (Brenda); grandchildren, Nathan Welch (Sarah), Sena Harris (Robbie), Kasey Welch-Griffing, Eric Welch, Ashley Welch, Matt Welch (Clarissa) and Logan Welch (Rachel); and her great grandchildren, Carter and Conner Harris, Tanner and Sophia Welch, Sidney Welch and Hannah, Booda, Destin and Kaden Griffing, and Makayla Welch.
She is preceded in passing by her husband, Bondy Allen Welch, her oldest son, Joel Welch, her father, Austin Lawley, Mother, Margie Hollis Lawley, and her brothers Herschel Lawley and Bill Lawley.
Pallbearers will be Logan Welch, Matt Welch, Tanner Welch, Nathan Welch, Eric Welch, and Bobby Hall.
