Etsuko W. Hobby Ridgeland Etsuko Wagatsuma Hobby (Tommie) was born October 19, 1930 in Sendai, Japan to her late parents, Chosuke and Tsuneyo Wagatsuma. On December 29, 2021, at the age of 91, she peacefully departed this world to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, Mississippi. After graduating school in Japan, she met her husband, Charles at the age of 18. After marrying, they left Japan and relocated to the United States. There she was able to travel and live in Alaska, California, Alabama and Texas until settling in Mississippi. While in Mississippi, she graduated from beauty school. She worked as a beautician for years before retiring to help her husband with his business. She was the second Japanese woman to reside in Mississippi. She was a friend to everyone she met. She loved entertaining, cooking, gardening, traveling, and shopping. However, her greatest joy was her family. She loved spending time with them and spoiling all of her grandchildren. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving children, daughter, Patsy Rogers and son, Charles Hobby Junior (Regina) both of Ridgeland, Mississippi. Her sister, Kazuko Stephens of Wichita Falls, Texas. Her seven granddaughters, Marie Owen of Cumming, Georgia, Alisha Schelver (Justyn) of Madison, Mississippi, Emily Haines of Crystal Springs, Mississippi, Jessica Cope (Randall) of Ridgeland, Mississippi, Melissa Thomas (Steven) of Memphis, Tennessee, Whitney Pleasant (Chandler) of Jackson, Mississippi, and Allison Hobby of Jackson, Mississippi along with eight great grandchildren. Etsuko was preceded in death by her parents, her seven brothers, one sister, along with her husband, Charles, and daughter, Hilda. She was beyond grateful for the care and love shown by her family over the past 13 years. The love her family felt for “Tommie” was epitomized by her oldest daughter (Patsy) who dedicated those years to assuring her mother received the best care possible. She is a true inspiration to those she left behind. She has provided a perfect illustration for her family to live by; which is to strive to be strong, kind, honest, humble, and generous. May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you peace. Numbers 6:24-26 A private memorial service will be held Friday, December 31, 2021 at Natchez Trace Memorial Home in Ridgeland, Mississippi. The Reverend Jim McEachern will officiate the service.
