Betty Jean Lee left this world on Sunday, December 6, and is now with our Lord Jesus Christ. Betty was born in 1935 in Scott County, Mississippi and moved with her Mom, Dad, sister and brother to Mannsdale,MS in the 1950s. Another brother came along when Betty was 20 years old - maybe that is how Betty developed her babysitting skills as she was still living at home. Betty was affectionally known as the “second Mom” to a large number of kids growing up in the Madison area for over 40 years. Betty grew up along with her brothers and her sister in the Madison Baptist Church (First Baptist Church of Madison) and worked in the nursery there for over 40 years (rocking those babies!!). Guess that is where she was “called” to help raise the children of so many Madison and Ridgeland couples. She loved them all and they loved her. And, she loved the parents. So many of those parents have kept in touch with Betty over the years and her family is so thankful for you. Betty had the unique attribute of thinking everyone was good. If we dared to let out a cuss word she would say “you don’t need to say that” - even if you thought u did!! We are sure all kids in Madison have one of Betty’s picture books - and some of you adults. If you said u liked any animal, you would get a binder with 8X10 pictures she had collected from calendars (she would ask that people look for out-of-date calendars with animal on them - which meant “buy them for me”). Although being “legally blind” Betty lived by herself (as she wanted to) for 15 years after her parents died. Then she wanted to move to The Home Place in Madison and was there for 17 years before being moved to Highland Homes in Ridgeland where she passed away. We praise God in that now Betty has a stronger body and mind and perfect eye sight and good hearing. That is because she has been healed and is whole and is now with her mother, father, brother (and with Libby Barber whom she loved like a sister) -- and she can see all the bright lights and beauty of Heaven without it hurting her eyes -" don’t need those sunglasses now, Betty”. Betty predeceased by her parents Walter and Mary Lee and by her brother Walter (Wally) Hugh Lee and by sister-in-law Joyce Lee. She is survived by her sister Nancy Warwick Newman (Sells) of Ridgeland, and her brother Thomas Cooper Lee (Barbara) of Fayetteville, Arkansas; five nieces and six nephews; and numerous children of the nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. She is also survived by loving first cousins and their families. So many people to thank over the years - church people, friends, The Home Place workers, Highland Homes workers and others. Funeral services will be Friday, Dec 11, 2020 at 1:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church, Old Canton Rd., Madison for family members and close friends of Betty. We ask that all wear masks and practice social distancing in order for everyone to feel safe. Graveside service will be afterwards at Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery, Hwy 51, Madison, Mississippi.
