Hugh Brooks Phillips, 83, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 , at home with family by his side. He was born December 29, 1936 in Leake County where he grew up and graduated from Freeny High School in 1955. Hugh enlisted in the United States Navy on September 1955, where he served 4 years. He aboard 2 USS Navy Carriers and was discharged as MM2 in September 1959. His training and many colorful experiences in the Navy served him well for his future. In 1957 Hugh married his loving wife Carolyn Boydston and they enjoyed nearly 63 years together. They had one daughter, Brenda Carol Phillips, born December 6, 1965, and she was the joy of their lives. Brenda married Chuck Bedrosian in 1955, and they lived in Bellevue, WA., three grandchildren, Sara-Anne, Mark and Matthew, Hugh loved them all dearly. Hugh enjoyed over 40 years in the printing business, he started with the Mississippi State Welfare Printing Department and worked there for two years. He later moved on to the Itek Corporation where he worked for 10 years and 25 years with A B Dick Company. He was service manager at both companies as well as sales representative. He retired in December 1999. In addition to his employment, in 1973 Hugh purchased farm acreage in Madison County where he raised cattle until 1990. He enjoyed working the land (in his spare time) as well as buying and selling the cows. Hugh's other loves were vacationing with Carolyn and Brenda, hunting with his friends and fishing with his brother, Tommy Phillips, who died in 1966. He was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church at the Reservoir (Brandon). He and Carolyn participated in the Mississippi Methodist Cursillo Weekend No. 3in 1982. They always believed their weekend together was a blessing from God. Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, Russ and Luna Phillips, also his brother,Tommy. A Naval memorial graveside service will take place in January 2021.
