While searching the Garinger High School site for someone else I was shocked to find the mention of my childhood friend Louis Honeycutt. We never called him Jack then as his father was still alive. Our neighborhood was a great place to grow up. Louis’ DaD would take us to Lake Lure in the mountains of North Carolina during the summers. January 3, 2020, I lost my next door neighbor John Fesperman. Now Louis has passed from that dreaded cancer, from which I also suffer. Louis was a strong, determined young man and was great at basketball, baseball, and as I have now learned was quite a golfer. There was a core of good friends around Louis...John Fesperman, William Chafin, Russell Hodge, Chip Holtzclaw and myself. There were also the Baucom brothers, Larry and Charles (Charles passed many years ago while running). As time goes by, many more of us will pass....let it be said that friends like Louis are very few and far between. It is to my great benefit that Louis was part of my life. God bless the family that he has left behind, and may Louis now be truly enlightened.
