On the early morning of December 20, 2019, Wanda Weems Mathis, beloved wife and mother, passed away at the age of 56. Wanda was born in Jackson, MS, raised in Flora, MS, and lived in Madison, MS, with her family. In 1984, she received her Bachelors of Accounting at Mississippi State University, which she soon put to great use working at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi for over 30 years. Wanda was married to Mike Mathis on June 7, 1986. They later raised two children together, Jon Michael Jr. and Kailey. Wanda was a caring, hard-working mother and wife who loved to spend time with her family. She always had a knack for photography and was usually the guru behind the camera. She enjoyed listening to live music, watching Christmas Hallmark movies, and going on cruises with her family. Wanda was preceded in death by her father, Percy Weems. She is survived by her husband Mike Mathis, her two children, Jon Michael Mathis and Kailey Mosley (Brandon), her mother, Bertie Weems, her two sisters, Wendy Pounds (Todd) and Tammy Amis (Mark), along with many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Wanda’s funeral service will be held on Monday, December 23, 2019, at 2pm at the Flora United Methodist Church. Visitation for friends and family begins at 12pm that day. In leu of flowers, the family asks that you instead make donations to the “Flora United Methodist Church’s Building Fund.”
