Obituary of Judith "Judy" Stevens Bramlett

Judith “Judy” Stevens Bramlett passed away on Friday, October 5, 2018 at the age of 72.  She battled cancer for the past six and a half years and was a source of inspiration for everyone who knew her. 

Judy was born and raised in Louisville, Mississippi and attended college at Mississippi University for Women.  She earned her master’s degree from the University of Mississippi.  Judy began her career as an English teacher in Natchez, Mississippi where she met Lee Bramlett, the love of her life on their shared birthday.  They were married four months later and were together for fifty years. 

Judy followed her husband’s coaching moves and worked as a high school English teacher in Boyce, LA, Senatobia, Florence, and McComb, MS.  She was much beloved by her students, fellow teachers, neighbors and friends in each place she called home.  Judy and Lee retired to Covington, Louisiana where she spent time making beautiful pottery.  They moved just north of Madison, Mississippi to be close to family and have resided there for the past ten years.  She fulfilled her goal of learning to play the harp and although she never played in public, we know that she will be joining the angels in heaven with joyous hymns of praise.

Judy is proceeded in death by her parents, Udell and Marie “Ree” Turner Stevens.  She is survived by her husband Lee Bramlett, sister Patricia “Patty” Jones, her two daughters Courtney Simmons (Hank) and Brooke Coogan (Patrick), grandchildren Ally and Thad Simmons, Michael, Matthew and Bram Coogan.

A special thanks to the numerous physicians, nurses and staff at Baptist and University Medical Centers and especially to Kelly Wilkinson, MD and James “Jimmy” Moore Jr., MD.

A Visitation honoring Mrs. Judy will be held Monday, October 8 at Madison United Methodist Church, 100 Post Oak Road, Madison, MS from 9-11 A.M. with a Celebration of Life Service Following at 11 A.M. in the Madison United Methodist Church.

In Lieu of flowers, contributions to UMMC Cancer Institute would be appreciated or memorials to local churches.
