Rudy A. Holcomb passed into his Heavenly home on October 4, 2018, surrounded by his family at his home in Flora. Visitation begins at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 6 at the Flora United Methodist Church, with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow immediately after the service at the Flora Cemetery.
Rudy was born in Fredonia, Kansas on July 6, 1940. He is a graduate of Cary High School and attended Mississippi State University and Hinds Junior College. He is preceded in death by his parents, Millard F. (Son) and Wilma B. Holcomb. Rudy obtained his pilot’s license at age 30 and founded Holcomb Aerial Services, Inc. of Flora, providing crop dusting services to farmers since 1970. He has served as President and member of the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Agricultural Aviation Association, and was recognized as Operator of the Year. He was appointed by Governor Kirk Fordice to serve on the Mississippi Ag Aviation Board.
Rudy was an active member of the Flora United Methodist Church, and attended Sunday School at the First Baptist Church of Flora. He dearly loved his community and served as Alderman of the town of Flora from July 1985 to July 2005. He served on the Tri-County Academy Board of Directors. He was an active member of the Madison County A-Model club and enjoyed making trips in his 1930 and 1931 A-model cars that he restored with the assistance of his sons.
Rudy is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Randall Holcomb, daughter Tammy (Benny) Childress, sons Brad (Sarah) Holcomb, Karl (Casey) Holcomb, and daughter Lynne (Kevin) Myers, grandchildren Valerie (Kevin) Bailey, Katie (Jeremy) Robinson, Matthew (Lauren) Holcomb, Christopher Holcomb, Ryan Holcomb, Bailey Holcomb, Karlton Holcomb, Mason Myers, and five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Flora United Methodist Church.
