Obituary of Sara Williams May

Sara Williams May, 86, of Madison, went home to be with the Lord on September 1, 2018 at St. Catherine's Village in Madison, MS.

She was born in Newton, MS to Ellis and Annie Caraway Williams on November 21, 1931. She married Frank May on April 10, 1955, over 63 years of being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Sara was a graduate of Newton High School , East Central Community College, and Mississippi State College for Women. She earned her Master's Degree in Education from Mississippi State University. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society and Phi Kappa Phi. She began her teaching career in Natchez then Meridian, Jackson, Raleigh, N.C. and worked 34 years in Newton Public Schools, serving 17 years as an Elementary Principal.

She was a long time member of Newton First Baptist Church where she taught young couples class and served faithfully on many committees before moving to Deerfield, Madison County in 2004. She joined Ridgecrest Baptist Church where she continued to serve her Lord. In September 2017 she moved her letter to First Baptist Church in Madison.

Sara is survived by her husband Frank, two sons: Steve May and his wife Ann and Dr. Robert May and his wife Linda; five grandchildren, Baily May (Meredith), Laura Dowdy (Matt), Davis May (Robyn), Scott May (Lauren) and Ben May (Sonum); three great grandchildren, Ellis and Ezra May and Brook Elaine Dowdy. In addition to her family and many friends, she loved her black and white Boston Terriers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Jenny Faye Schultz and brother Hillman Williams.

Visitation will be held at Natchez Trace Funeral Home on Monday September 3, 2018 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm and again Tuesday from 10:00am until 11:00am with a funeral service to follow in the chapel at 11:00am. The graveside service for her family and friends will be Tuesday at 3:30pm in the Newton Masonic Cemetery in Newton, MS.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name are suggested to St. Catherine's Village Foundation 200 Dominican Drive Madison, MS 39110 or the First Baptist Church of Madison Building Fund 2100 Main Street Madison, MS 39110.

The family would like to thank all of the Prayer Warriors at Ridgecrest Baptist Church, First Baptist Madison and St. Catherine's Village for the prayers and love expressed throughout Sara's illness. Special thanks to the staff at Cambell Cove and Hughes Center for their exceptional and loving care. God has a special place for Wanda, Vickie, Lisa and Latoya. Special thanks to Dr. Patton, N.P.
