Otis M. Ellis, 91, of Madison, passed away on June 13, 2018 at his home in Madison County.

He was born on April 8, 1927 to and Otis Franklin Ellis and Mary Ludy Gibson Ellis in KilMichael, MS. After high school, Otis served in the Merchant Marines during WWII and the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On September 25, 1953 he married Shirley Cooper during his time of service. After the military, he resided in Fort Worth, Texas where he was the owner of River Oaks Laundry and a member of Castleberry Baptist Church where he was Baptized. After moving back to Mississippi he opened Fireside Bar-B-Q and later worked as a Deputy Sheriff in Madison County, Hinds County and Grenada before joining the Alcohol Beverage Control where he retired as an agent.

Otis is survived by his loving spouse of 65 years, Shirley Ellis; daughter, Ramona Ellis Norrell; grandson, Christopher Ashley Norrell and his wife Heather Alford Norrell; granddaughter, Amber Kay Norrell; great grandchildren, Josie Gunalda and Cole Norrell and a niece, Melanie Tatum Whittington.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mavis E. Tatum and Katherine Ellis.

Visitation will be held Saturday, June 16, 2018, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm at Natchez Trace Funeral Home with a graveside service at 3:00pm followed by Military Honors in the Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery.
