Obituary of Mike Harris
William Michael Harris 68, of Jackson MS, passed away while surrounded by his family on May 1, 2018. A visitation honoring Mike’s life will be held at Natchez Trace funeral home in Madison, MS on Friday May 4th, 2018 from 11-1 with a memorial service immediately following at 1.
Mike was born May 25, 1949 in Newton, MS to Bill and Sarah Jo Harris. He grew up in Jackson where in junior high school he fell in love with his lifelong sweetheart Cheryl. He attended Provine High School and graduated with the Class of 1967. After high school, he went to the University of Southern Mississippi where he earned a football scholarship and graduated with a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science. Mike spent his career in the car business and was still employed by Independent Bank at his death.
His first priority was always his family and close friends. Most Sunday’s you would find Mike with his brother and their families over at his parents house enjoying a meal and time together. The family’s annual trips to Florida were also a special reminder of how much the family centered around his positive energy and his ability to make anything fun. Mike loved to take his boat to the area around the Natchez Trace River Bend for photography with Cheryl or rope swings with the grand kids on their much-anticipated summer visits. Mike enjoyed playing golf with his many friends at Deerfield and Bay Point, as well as playing tournaments with his longtime friend Rickey. He also enjoyed exploring and fishing “the marsh” in southern Louisiana, and in the last few years even hooked Trey to join the trip with his friends.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of forty-eight years Cheryl Taylor Harris; father William Harris; son Trey (Angie) and their children Georgia, Jack, and Elle Harris; brother Mark (Sue); and also eight nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in passing by his mother, Sarah Jo Harris.
