I served with Hyde in the Marine Corps. Although we were in different platoons we still knew each other. We deployed twice together. Hyde was a good dude. Memories are blurred from alcohol but I do remember he was a good Marine and man.

Here are a couple Marine stories about Hyde. I was his senior Marine, and he was in my team. We trained him and the other new guys before our deployment to Haditha, Iraq. At one point in Iraq, we took fire, and he was shot in his body armor as he was stuck in concertina wire and out in the open. It’s terrifying to be stuck in the open while being shot at. But he got off the ground and out of the wire and stayed in the fight. He did an outstanding job. He told me later that it felt like someone hit him with a sledgehammer. It didn’t seem to faze him too much. He was a hard charger. With our dark sense of humor and after the fact, it was hilarious seeing him stuck out in the open while being shot at. He and I had a good talk after that event.
We deployed again to Fallujah, but we were in different teams. After that deployment, Hyde and several other Marines gave me an engraved KA-BAR as I was leaving the Marines. I was honored by their gesture. The funny thing was, Hyde grabbed the KA-BAR and ran his thumb along the blade. I said, “Don’t do that, it’s sharp.” Well, it was too late as he cut himself and bled all over the sheath. I still have it in my office to this day. Once again with our dark sense of humor, we laughed at his ass bleeding on my gift.
On behalf of the Marines of 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines India Company, we send our deepest condolences to all family and friends.

My sincerest condolences go out to the entire Hyde family. I had the honor of serving with Hyde on my last two deployments in 2nd Platoon. Although he was one of our junior Marines, he always remained even-keeled and had a good head on his shoulders. Hyde would do absolutely anything for anyone. He’s gone way too soon. Until Valhalla—rest easy, brother.

We have So many memories of laughter and love with Ryan. We always had the best and weirdest conversations that could just go on so long our wife’s would have to end them. We shared a lot with each other’s family so much we became family. So many years ago we meet through friends and continued our friendship for so long it eventually became our children’s friendship. My heart hurts and my soul aches. I will forever cherish everything we shared and will always look after your family. I will scare the living crap out of any “dude” that your daughter thinks she will bring around. I will always be your friend and brother forever and ever. I love you Ryan Hyde!
