I could hardly wait for our planned visit to see our son and his family. On the first night, Sept. 30, I gave Jeanelle a new doll. She named her Amelia and said she would be friends with Love, the baby doll she had had since she was four. She kept the dolls in her bed, covered with the quilt we made together when she was six. Then she said, "Grandma, I want to make a horse for you." She quickly created a tiny clay horse with a detailed mane and tail. It is a treasure!
That night, we curled up together in bed, and she read to me from the standard version of the Bible she had gotten last summer. She read from it every night and was well into Genesis. I told her it might be easier to start with the New Testament but she wanted to read it from start to finish!
The next night, she jumped at the chance to pray before dinner. She prayed a prayer that left us with our mouths open. She thanked Jesus for being our Lord and Savior, forgiving our sins, dying on the cross, for the resurrection, and much more. I can't remember exactly, but I think she referred to God as our everlasting Father. It was a beautiful, long prayer that was eloquent and theologically correct beyond what one would expect from an eight-year-old.
I know Jesus was there with arms wide open to scoop His precious child up into His bosom. I look forward to spending eternity with this granddaughter who gave me so much joy. Not a day on this earth will go by, that I will not miss her.

Jeanelle was deeply loved by everyone, truly the little princess of our family. She celebrated her first birthday in the Philippines, and from that day, we saw just how joyful and adventurous she was. Full of energy, always on the move, she never failed to bring happiness to everyone she met. Even now, she continues to bring joy to her friends and family.
We know you are in a better and more joyful place now with our Creator. Jeanelle, you will never be forgotten and will always be in our hearts.

Jeanelle is our bundle of joy. She knows how to appreciate even the little things she receives from people. If you give her a small rock, she will love it with all her heart and make it the most special gift she has ever received, as if it were the most expensive gem in the world. When I cook, she always makes me (her mom) feel so special and tells me how much she loves my cooking and that I’m the best cook in the world. All the people who taste my food love my cooking, and she is so happy that I am her mom. She loves her sister unconditionally and always protects her. She proudly tells everyone that she looks like her mom and that she doesn’t like to see her mom cry. She loves her daddy and does all the wildest activities with him. She even caught a snake and was so happy riding her bike while holding a king snake in her hand.
Jeanelle was very adventurous for her age and lived life to the fullest, enjoying all kinds of activities. She loved animals and all creatures, treating them with care. As parents, we tried to give her everything. She is so smart and does not complain much, so we try to give her all she needs to make her happy and feel loved.
We will never forget you, baby, and I hope you remember us when we see you again in heaven. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!❤️

When we moved here from Japan, the first person to come up and talk to us was Jeanelle. She told us that she lived in the house next to ours, and it gave us so much peace of mind. By the lucky chance, my daughter Soraka was in the same class as Jeanelle, and thanks to her, Soraka was able to settle into school quickly. Sometimes, Jeanelle would come over to our house and play with our kids. Even though we didn’t speak English very smoothly, she played with us without caring at all, and we were so happy for that. We will always remember her beautiful smile and her creative artistic talents, now and forever. Thank you, Jeanelle. We can never thank you enough.

In July of 2022, Clodarl and I took Janelle and Davy to the East Ottertail County Fair in Perham, MN. I will never forget the wonderment that lit up their eyes as we walked around the fairgrounds. Every corner was filled with yummy smells, fun rides, and of course - animals! We shared a bag of cotton candy as Janelle and Davy were perusing the stalls. Never had I experienced such boundless joy from seeing them enjoy their time together. As you can see by these photos, she never missed an opportunity to make a silly face for the camera. My favorite moment from this night was when we were walking to get some lemonade, Janelle looked up at the brilliant sunset and yelled "I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL."

How abundantly thankful I am to have shared time with Janelle during her life here on Earth. To have experienced her love and laughter is a gift that I will forever treasure. She had such a bold, unbridled joy and zest for life. During our MN summers, I remember that she would always be the first one in the lake and the last one out, and I know how much she loved spending time with her best friend in cousin form - Davy. Her time with us was short, but her memory will forever be brought to life through those she loved.
Janelle, I will be seeing you in every sunset for the rest of my life. I know that you are dancing with Jesus now.

I keep replaying in my mind just brief moments of the summer reunion at Jeanelle’s Grandparents home, Jeanelle was playing with her cousin and my sons on the floating lily pad, all of them silly, fearless, and carefree as kids in the summer should be. Thank you Ryan and Diane for sharing your sweet, precious Jeanelle with us here in Minnesota the past few summers. It was always a bright spot in my day when grandma Mari and Jeanelle would come for some horsey time. And oh how my puppies LOVED her. My daughter Lucy Kaye who was in Jeanelle’s switch class had a few things to say…. She said Jeanelle was really good at drawing. And she said Jeanelle was so pretty. About 2 years ago Jeanelle came to our home and came inside to play with LucyKaye, Ella and Kristina. My daughter’s room was a mess and I remember Jeanelle couldn’t find one of her shoes when it was time to go. The girls had been playing. She said they were new and she had gotten them for Christmas. She was so worried she wouldn’t find it. But we did. And she was happy. Most of the kids including mine would just leave their shoes and not worry but she was responsible even at 6. We walked her home and I believe I met Ryan briefly. We wish we had gotten more time to get to know her. But all the neighborhood kids have been talking and remembering her and want to continue to honor her.

Oh Janelle. As your neighbor across the street, I remember when you’d come over and play with Delvin. I remember when my oldest son went fishing and were afraid to pick up the fish they caught and you went right to that bucket and picked those fish up and tapped them saying, “stop that moving”! LOL
I remember taking you to school one morning and you spoke with such admiration for your mommy and daddy.
I remember you and Delvin playing with Pokémon cards and you giving Delvin one. Delvin now takes that card with him everywhere he goes.
Your memory and tenacity are what made you so very special. We will miss you dearly sweet baby.

Q: How did you meet Jeanelle?
A: When Jeanelle was in her mother’s belly. I couldn’t wait to meet her. Her mother Dianne was my best friend when I was in the US. When Dianne took her to come meet me. I immediately loved her. She had beautiful eyes and the cutest smile❤️I couldn’t stop showing the pictures and videos of me and Jeanelle to my family and friends back in China. When she was two, I left the US. But I always checked Dianne’s Facebook and instagram to see her beautiful little face. My parents also loved her very much when they met her in Mississippi. After they left the US, they always ask me about Dianne and the whole family. Jeanelle will be dearly missed by me and my parents, and I will never forget her beautiful eyes and cute smile.

In our family it never mattered "how" we were related we were all just family. The love and support that comes with that statement is endless. I found these random pictures, thought I would pass them on. Jeanelle was an amazing mix of both you, and the love you share. My heart as a mom grieves for you all. Q: What will you never forget about Jeanelle?
A: I work the front of the foyer at MAE. I’ll never forget Jeanelle walking in every morning with her arms opened wide for our morning ritual hug. We’d hug, high five and then I’d twirl her around like a ballerina and off to class she went. Every morning. It was mine and her thing we always did. She will be missed. May her parents and family find comfort in God’s arms now. She’s twirling with Jesus now.

Jeanelle was a classic example of the Joy of Life which we all wish we could sustain throughout our lives. Her animation at the smallest movement of the tiniest creature, her laughter at riding her bike, her natural talent of putting he ideas into terrific sculptures, her "love" of everything and anyone, and her affection for Jesus...all will continue to inspire and bring joy to everyone who knew her.
