It was back in about 2008 when we received a ‘random’ message from this person named Rocky Heathcock saying he thinks we may be related.
Being in Australia, we had no knowledge at all of any American Heathcock relatives. Anyway, nothing to loose, we started a conversation with Rocky.
That was one of the best things we did. John and Rocky ‘clicked’. They both loved fishing, shooting, motorbikes, the bush and their families.
The conversations would flow and lots of photos exchanged especially when they both bought their motorbikes.
Then we were introduced to ‘Skype’ and we organised a suitable time (due to us being ‘down under’). So we finally got to talk and see each other. How wonderful.
As technology improved, we were able to share events, children getting married, birth of grandchildren, holidays and so on. it was wonderful.
Rocky always referred to us as his cousins, which was truly special. It was our dream to meet one day, but it didn’t matter because we knew him and his personality shone through. He was a good family loving man and has definately left a whole in our hearts.
We will always hold dear our memories.
Our thought are with you all

I remember my freshman year, Rocky was pressure washing your drive way when I pulled up to your house to hang with nicks “crew”. We were at your house often that freshman summer after football workouts!
Rocky turned off the pressure washer and asked me if I knew how to work one. I told him I’d never used one before and he took me through a 15 min tutorial. A masterclass. But, before we started he made me go change out of flip flops and put on a pair of nicks shoes. He told me “there’s two things that can make you lose your toes, being a jackass with a pressure washer or diabetes.” We laughed and laughed.
This past weekend, I was pressure washing my drive way and got careless for a moment. I ended up cutting on the ankle with the water pressure.
God sends us small affirmations of his presence. When that happened I immediately thought back to Rocky’s lesson (and joke) years ago. I know he’s with our Lord and savior. Love you.

So many memories of Rocky. My favorite one was a few years back the cousins made a surprise trip to Mississippi to see him (and Karen). Three cousins should up one day before the rest of us. He was truly taken back and emotionally that they should up and kept saying “I don’t believe this. Y’all drove to Mississippi to see me. Little did he know, the next day there were five more of us coming up as well.
When the five of us showed up, the look on his face was priceless and the emotions won out. The rest of the day he kept saying, “I still can’t believe all of you showed up to see me”.
Rocky will be missed but he will forever live in our hearts and our memories.
Love you Rockstar.

Rocky was an individual not only blessed with the humor to brighten any day, but also adorned with a heart of kindness. His wisdom often shone through his passion for woodworking and love for nature's majesty. His anecdotes, a reflection of his wit and profound human connection, will be remembered fondly. May his cherished memory live on in us all, encouraging strength and unity in his beloved family during these trying times. Rest in peace, dear Rocky.

Last Thursday the world lost a really good guy.
Rocky Heathcock was a good friend and a brother.
Though we had lost touch for many years (through no fault of his), I will forever be greatful that he reached out to me and we reconnected.
My only regret is that I did not get to see him before he left us.
Please send prayers to his lovely wife Karen, their sons, daughter and grandchildren.
I will miss you, Roc.

If any one knew this man you know he was a class act. Always full of life and his family was his first priority. I have the pleasure of saying this man taught me how to not let the small things bother me as much ( still working on that) that life is to short to worry about things that's out of your control. We would spend hours on the phone talking about nothing in general just cutting up and laughing. Rocky Heathcock you will be missed my friend.

When I was in the 8th grade Rocky Heathcock , came to stay with us for a week or so. He was teaching himself to play guitar and he sang this song to me. Today they lay him to rest and I can't be there. I'm sorry he's not here with us.... but I know He's healed and happy to be with Jesus. Please continue to pray for Karen Clark Johnson, his kids and grandkids and the rest of those that loved him. Life will be quiet and dull without Rock.

Karen,
As you know i have been having back problems and many procedures that have not helped much. Rocky back problems along with mine gave us a lot to talk about. Nearly every week we talked several times during the week about his condition and back problems. Some weeks ago I went to deer camp for the weekend. Rocky was having a good week and we decided to go fishing Saturday afternoon. When he came over, we hooked to my boat, loaded our fishing gear and headed to Mary's lake. Jimmy T and Chris met us there as well as Greg and his nephew and used one of the boats at the lake. It was a wonderful afternoon, we fussed, which Rocky loved to do, we talked, we even caught several fish. This time with Rocky was the best, that afternoon with the Rocky, out in the great outdoors, doing what we both loved to do. This is how I will always remember Rocky, being with a great friend and doing something we both enjoyed doing. That was a verry special time, I am so lucky to have that day fishing with a very special friend and buddy.
You will be missed, but not forgotten Ole Buddy.
Karen you and yours are in our prayers

Through the years, I've enjoyed receiving Heathcock-Johnson Clan holiday cards, watching this sweet family grow while staying close. Rocky and Karen never used the word “step” when speaking of their daughter and sons, which I’ve always admired. And I’m thankful that Boba got to experience the joy of his six precious grandkids.
Rocky’s unique humor always delighted me, and he was my favorite Facebook friend. He’d make me smile with even the simplest comment, like “Clark me, Lindsey”. He had a passion for life’s simple pleasures and was proud to be a Texan.
I will truly miss him, but I will cherish each memory and keep everyone who loved him in prayer.

Rocky was one of the best. I will never forget our first time meeting in person for Thanksgiving and Kylea running to hug him like she hadn't seen him in years. It will always be a precious memory. I will never forget his love for family and our common love of plants lol. I will miss his laughter, jokes and stories. I could listen to those stories forever. We loved him so much. May he rest in eternal peace.

Karen and family,
Rocky had a special gift for making people feel good and comfortable when they were around a him. He had the best sense of humor and was fun to be around.
When I told Lauren that he’d passed away she reflected back to her high school days and on how he picked on her and said, “He loved me and Ashley. He called me, Sticks and Ashley, Blondie!”
We are praying for strength and comfort for you and your family.

It was said that Will Rogers never met a man he didn't like and Rocky Heathcock was another such individual. His infectious smile and quick wit made even the coldest stranger break into a smile. I witnessed time after time as he served as greeter at the Flowood Flea Market for a time. Even when he was just visiting, he had a way of saying just the right phrase to brighten your day and he did that for evryone he encountered not just friends. While he was a talented woodworker as well as other abilities, it is his ability to bring life and happiness into the room when he entered that I will remember and miss the most. Happy Trails old friend until we meet again!

One of the first memories I have of Rocky was 28 years ago. Hailey was a baby toddling around and he had read somewhere that babies do not developed knee caps until they are two years old. I was busy with dinner or something and turned a corner and he and Jamie have Hailey dangling by her feet looking at her knees for kneecaps. She was giggling and enjoying the attention. lol He always had a kid’s enthusiasm and curiosity. Years later and he and Hailey were still close.

I met Rocky in the mid 2000's when my son and Nick were playing select baseball. We immediately hit it off, because we were very similar in a lot of ways. Should have known there was a deeper connection, as I just found out he was a Texan, as am I. Always enjoyed his company along the outfield fence, and looked forward to seeing him every weekend. He always called me "rainman" because I paced the fence, during the games. Rocky, you were one of a kind, and a true friend. You always fought the good fight. God rest your soul, and we'll see you on the other side. SEMPER FI

I'll never forget going to Mississippi to see Rocky, Karen, and the kids as child. It was blast.
I especially loved our witty banter on Facebook. In my 20's I was going through a break up. (I think.) I posted something on Facebook, he got on there to cheer me up. I eventually mentioned something about wanting to come to come see or stay with him and responded with "We always have room for you, punk!" Even though we were joking around, I knew he meant it.
I remember when the whole Marco polo cousins chat came about. He contacted me to help my mom get on there. Him, my mom, and I were the original Marco polo clan. Lol! After that, it spread like wildfire. Soon, I got off cause there wasn't enough hours in the day for me to get on there and listen to every Marco polo. (You know, kids and ish.) But I would participate via my mom and I enjoyed listening to Rocky when my mom would be on it.... every morning. Lol
The trip to Caddo Lake was short, but it was so good to see him, Karen and Lindsey's kids. My boys played with cousins they never met and the adults got to just soak up the time in the presence of Rocky.
I'll never forget my memories with him. ❤️

Lindsey, your dad was the absolute coolest.
I remember him helping me with a history report about the civil war. He taught me the Battle of Gettysburg was started over shoes. I don’t remember any of the details of that story, but the bottom line always stuck with me.
I remember going camping with y’all and he got REALLY excited my mom sent Cheez-itz in a bag of snacks she packed for us. The way he yelled “cheez-itz!” and reached for them made me laugh, and I still think about that sometimes when I see them.
He also taught me that ranch is great on pizza. I thought it was really weird at first but I’ll be darned if I don’t still do it to this day.
Lindsey, you and your dad were always two of the realest. Both of you so honest and kind. Your dad did such a great job raising you because he was such a great person. They don’t make them like y’all anymore.
I’m so incredibly sorry for this huge loss.
