Martha Housely Thacker, age 73, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024 in Madison, Mississippi. She was born on September 1, 1950 to William Riley Housely and Palestine Carr in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Martha grew up in Purvis, Mississippi, attending Purvis High School, joining the school band as a French Horn player and majorette, and where she met her future husband Jack Thacker. Martha married JacK on June 20, 1968 , forever tying their future together in happiness and sadness; in sickness and health. During her husband's time in the Marine Corps, they moved from Tennessee to South Carolina, and North Carolina. During this time, Martha began her career with the phone company as a telephone operator. Once Jack's service was up, they returned to Purvis, Mississippi, where she continued her career. Eventually, moving to Jackson, and finally settling in Madison for the her last 30 years. Once moving to Jackson, Martha had her first child, in 1977, Jack Thacker, Jr. And two short years later, in 1979, she gave birth to her second child, Jeffery Thacker. In North East Jackson, she began raising her children and continued her career with the phone company for 34 years until her retirement. In 1991, she moved with her family to Madison, where they built their new dream home, remaining for the rest of her life. During her time in Madison, she transferred to the local St. Matthews United Methodist Church from Christ United Methodist Church of N.E. Jackson. Here she continued to deepen her faith in God and her service to the church by becoming very active in the church's choir and lending a helping hand to activities within the church. Martha is survived by her loving husband, Jack Anthony Thacker of Madison, MS; two Sons, Jack Antony Thacker, Jr. of Brandon, MS, Jeffrey P. Thacker of Flowood, MS; Brother, Jack Housely of Purvis, MS; Two grandchildren, Sophie E. Thacker, William Jordan Thacker. Visitation will be Thursday June 27, 2024 at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church in Madison, Mississippi, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. A funeral service celebrating her life will be at 2:00 pm at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church in Madison, Mississippi, and the Graveside service will follow in Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery in Madison, Mississippi.
