My favorite memory of Gary. I was in Jr. High and Gary was in either my brothers class or my sisters. (74,75) I thought he was just Gorgeous and I called and told him so. He thought it was funny, my sister was mortified. I suspect he mentioned it to her every chance he got. I still think he was a great man and I am so sorry for y'all's loss. You will be in my prayers.

Growing up with the Slades as family friends, I don’t remember a moment when Mr. Gary wasn’t laughing, smiling, or making a joke. He was so kind, and you could tell the type of kindness he had was deeper than the everyday kindness we experience. It was gentle, and it was intentional. Later in life when I wasn’t able to come by as much, whenever I did see him, he greeted me by name and asked me how I was. I specifically remember the last time I got to chat with him (a few months before he passed), he still remembered my name, gave me a hug, and wanted to ride in my new car because it was “awesome.” He was amazing, to say the least, and I know that he’s laughing and smiling with the Lord as he continues to watch over the people he loves.

I will always remember Gary’s last several years as revelatory of his true nature. He was instantly welcoming of us into his heart, presence and home. He didn’t even care if he didn’t exactly remember who or why we were there. He just wanted us to feel that we were loved by him. He always brought joy with a sense of humor, no matter what. Simply remarkable.
When we were staying with the family one time I asked Gary if he’d like to pray before a meal. Of course he did! It was amazing. With complete coherence and articulation, strength and power, he prayed beautifully to the One whom he perfectly recognized. It was clear they talked all day long every day, without inhibition. It was such a sacred and moving moment.
I miss Gary deeply already.

Mark and I loved Gary Slade. So full of love, hugs, laughter, ……amidst a heart driven faith in the the Jesus, he loved and lived for. Gary was talent overload and his impact was powerful and broad.
He was the master of “one liners”. “Strap a feedbag on”……when referring to going to a favorite meal. “Going to get horizontal”….when referring to bedtime. So many more.
Gary Slade was a very special and unique creation……one that blessed all who crossed his path. While we are incrediby sad about his departure from our presence, we are so incredibly grateful that our paths crossed and a true friendship was born. Amy, our first friend in this incredble duo, was the one that demonstrated “love beyond measure” to her Gary Slade….to his last breath. A true model and testament for all to admire and replicate. He was God’s gift to you Amy, at the perfect time.
To Brennan and Hannah, goodness……you were his creation….and each of you made his heart burst. He loved you so.
Well done Gary Slade. Your life here on earth is worthy of replication.
When you were greeted in heaven, we know your banquet was overflowing and overwhelming, as promised in Isiah. And knowing this bring tears. Well done Gary Slade, well done. We celebrate and “toast” your life. Mark and Connie Greene, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Gary and I first met in Laurel, Mississippi. I was in college managing a Health Club and he was a member. We became friends and both moved to Jackson around the same time. He really has been a friend that sticks closer than a brother.
He was a warrior and a rock for those who knew him. He was definitely not a Fair-weather friend.
I was privileged to be asked to be his best man when he married Amy. Amy, I have never seen him so happy.
Brennan and Hannah, you are his two living monuments. It will be exciting to see what God does through each of you.
After over four decades of friendship when I think back, the memories are a blur of friendship, love and laughter. I am so happy for G-man. He finished the race.❤️

In the mid-late 90’s Gary was the teacher of the adult “Sunday School” class I attended at Christ United.
The thing I remember most was how genuinely enthusiastic he was about sharing God’s love. Every week he was eager to share “The Coolest Thing” he’d learned …
(“Isn’t that just awesome?!?”)
Enthusiasm is
En Theos…
“In Christ” & “Christ Within”
Gary’s bucket was so full he couldn’t wait to splash it out on the people around him.
I loved getting to re-unite years later when I got to hang out with Gary & you Amy, and the kids, on our sports mission trip to Cut Bank Montana, and again more recently as paths have crossed.
As things have changed for Gary (and you all) over the past few years, I’ve been grateful to have known him in years past… to be better able to connect.
He loved you Amy and the kids so much while he was here with you, and that’s a love that never ends.
♥️

Another fav memory with Garry is that he would keep me company while I waited for hannah to come home or til she got done with her nap :)) We would sit outside or in the living room and either watch the news or just talk. He would always laugh at what I had to say even if it wasn’t funny. It always made me feel like a comedian lol. He would tell me how much he loved chase and Murphy during our wait and would make sure to give me lots of hugs. He never made me feel weird or awkward and I always had such a fun time just simply sitting with him.

One of the many fav memories I have of Garry was when Hannah and I were getting ready for Halloween. Garry loved my cowgirl hat and didn’t take it off until I needed it for our party. Whenever he put it on, he would start dancing and saying random funny things like “Gimmie sum of that”. Even tho he didn’t know why it was so funny, he would say it over and over again just because Hannah and I were laughing so hard. That was Garry’s many gifts was that he could bring laughter to any body that was around him.
