Obituary of Otilia Mayela Sebuktekin

Please share a memory of Otilia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Madison - Otilia Mayela Salas Sebuktekin of Madison was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, on November 12, 1958, the second child of Cristina Reyes de Salas and Kermith Salas. After graduating from the Universidad Nacional de Honduras in Tegucigalpa, Otilia moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to study English. While at Louisiana State University, she met the love of her life, Isik Sebuktekin, whom she married in 1988. While raising her daughter, Milena, Otilia dedicated her professional career to many Jackson area nonprofits. Otilia made sure family, friends, and pets knew the depth of her love, and she lived for others. In addition, she was an adventurer at heart and loved to travel, crossing the globe throughout her adult life and admiring diverse cultures, cuisines, and world religions. As a Catholic, Otilia attended St. Therese Catholic Church in Jackson and possessed a uniquely transcendent spirituality. Personifying resilience, Otilia empowered many others with her strength, even while facing a brief but brave battle with cancer. On Friday, April 26, 2024, Otilia passed peacefully in her sleep with family at her side at home. A dedicated tia, Otilia is survived by her husband, Isik “My Love,” daughter Milena Sebuktekin (Loden) Snell, and her brother, Gerardo "Tato" Salas of Costa Rica. A celebration of life service, a testament to Otilia's vibrant spirit, will be held at the Natchez Trace Funeral Home on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 11 a.m. We invite all who knew and loved Otilia to join us in this commemoration. Memorial donations may be made to Rescue Revolution.
