Obituary of Evanthia "Martha" Kappis
Please share a memory of Evanthia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Evanthia Martha Kappis, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished friend,
passed away peacefully on April 16, 2024, at the age of 74.
Born on October 19, 1949, in the picturesque village of Hrisovo, Greece, Martha first immigrated
to the United States in 1967 with her parents and siblings. She returned to Greece where she
soon met the love of her life, Theodosios Ted Kappis. They married in 1969 and returned to
America to embark on a lifetime of love, family, and entrepreneurial adventures.
Martha, affectionately known to all as Momma was a cornerstone of her community. Her
passion for Greek cuisine and her flair for hospitality led her to a successful career as a
restaurateur. Martha ran multiple restaurants throughout her life, each infused with her warmth,
generosity, and delectable cooking. Her establishments were more than just places to eat; they
were gathering spots where everyone felt at home.
She spent the last 15 years of her vibrant life in Jackson, MS, where she continued influencing
the local culinary scene and delighting diners with dishes and welcoming spirit.
Martha leaves behind a loving family: her devoted husband, Theodosios; her children, Mary
(Lefteris) Delimitros of Memphis, TN, Yana Kappis of Dunedin, FL, Effie Kappis Hubanks of
Jackson, MS, and Sokratis T Kappis of Jackson, MS; her grandchildren Evan, Tadd, and
Hudson; and her sister Aleca (John) Lazaridis. She was preceded in death by her parents,
Stavros and Yianoula Zaharopoulos and brother, Nikolaos, whose memories she held close to
her heart.
Martha's legacy will be cherished by all who knew her. She was a guiding light, a source of
strength and inspiration, and her memory will forever be a blessing to those who loved her.
Visitation will be held at Natchez Trace Funeral Home from 12-2. Services will follow at Holy
Trinity- St. John the Theologian on Saturday, April 20, 2024 followed by interment at Jessamine
Cemetery in Ridgeland, MS. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Martha's memory to the
