Obituary of Bucky Gideon
Please share a memory of Bucky to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Louis Buckner Gideon (“Bucky”) was born November 15, 1932 in Water Valley, MS. to William Cyril Gideon and Lucille Buckner Gideon. He resided in Lambert until college.
Bucky served in the Navy during the Korean War, including time on the battleship, USS Iowa. After his discharge from the navy, Bucky attended Mississippi State where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
After graduation, Bucky moved to Memphis, TN. and began working in a management-training program with New York Life, where he met his wife, Sara Kay Mason. Bucky and Kay moved to Mississippi in 1963 where Bucky was employed with Capitol Bolt and Screw, followed by a brief employment with a packaging company, when he decided to try his hand at real estate. Bucky continued to develop both commercial and residential properties in Madison County until he retired in 2018. Just a few of his developments are Bridgewater, Ashbrooke, Cobblestone, Panther Creek, Trace Station Retail Center, Commerce Park Drive and many others.
Bucky has received numerous awards including Madison County Goodwill Award in 2011 presented by Madison County Foundation, conservation Developer of the Year Award in 2000 presented by the Madison County Soil and Conservation District and the Economic Development Award in 2001 presented by the City of Ridgeland Chamber of Commerce.
Anyone who knew Bucky knows he was a lover of people. He developed many close friendships through his work in the real estate business and was widely respected for his integrity. A true reflection of who Bucky was could be found in his desire to help others. He was always a source of encouragement and support through his word and actions. One of Bucky’s greatest joys was spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren play sports. He and Kay were constant fixtures on the sidelines, rain or shine.
Bucky was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church since 1967. Many people will remember “Mr. Bucky” driving the church bus for Christ Methodist many years on Sunday mornings. He and Kay also enjoyed serving Christ through their attendance in Grace Sunday school class.
Bucky is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sara Kay Gideon, his son William Scott Gideon (Memory) of Madison, MS, grandchildren Jackson Grant Gideon, Sara Scott Gideon, and Samuel Cole Gideon, and his son, John Clinton Gideon (Natalie) of Madison, MS. and grandson John William Gideon.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William Cyril Gideon and Lucille Buckner Gideon, his brother, William Cyril Gideon, Jr., and his sons, James Mason Gideon and Clayton Louis Gideon.
