Roberta Thompson Cannon Hickson 86, of Madison, MS was called home to be with the Lord on April 29th, 2017 in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be Monday May 1, 2017 at Natchez Trace Funeral Home from 10-11 a.m. with graveside following at 3:00 p.m. in Shuqualak Cemetery in Shuqualak, MS. Located in Noxubee County.
Roberta was born on December 20, 1930 in Gholson, MS. to Thomas Lewis Sr. & Bessie Roberta Thompson. She grew up in Shuqualak, MS. where she attended and graduated from Shuqualak High School as a Salutatorian. In Mrs. Roberta’s earlier years’, she was a banker for Trust Mark for many years until retiring. She was a charter member of MS Quilters Association, in which she enjoyed very much. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star as well as being a dedicated member of the Madison United Methodist Church. In Mrs. Roberta’s spare time she was an avid reader as well as a talented musician. Most of all she was loving wife & mother, and friend. One of her greatest joys in life was watching and spending time with her grandchildren and most of all her great-grandchildren whom she adored.
Mrs. Roberta is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Lewis Sr. & Bessie Roberta Thompson. Her late husband Mr. Howard Earl Cannon, one sister, Annie Mae Thompson Goodin, one brother, Thomas Lewis Thompson Jr., grandparents., Joseph J. & Nancy Jane Daniel Thompson, Thomas J. Lee & Emily M Bland Lee.
Mrs. Roberta is survived by her loving husband Mr. Morris Franklin Hickson of Madison, MS., one daughter, Elizabeth Roberta Cannon Zachry and her husband John of Madison, MS., one step-daughter, Denese Wilson of Terry, MS., one son, Howard Earl Cannon Jr. and his wife Susan of Canton, MS., one step-son, Morris Keith Hickson and his wife Pam of New York, NY., five grandchildren., Ashton Elizabeth Zachry Foy and her husband Seth of Madison, MS., Savannah Lee Zachry of Madison, MS., Shelby Mayner Zachry of Madison, MS., Amy Marie Cannon Shook and her husband Todd of Madison, MS., and Jennifer Ann Cannon Havis and her husband Will of Charlotte, SC., four great-grandchildren, Harper Elizabeth Foy, Cal Houston Foy, Ava Jo Shook and William Hamilton Havis. four nieces and two nephews.
